Light and Electricity

Combine the circuit set and solar panel and the solar panel combined with a single  LED to show the co-conversion between light and electricity. Show the use of light as a switch, a controller. Integrate fibers into a circuit.

A solar cell and an LED present one of the first lessons: light > electricity > light. It is a basic light sensor/meter.
To make it clear that the solar cell is producing electricity and not light we also use the cell to drive a motor and a volt meter, which are taken from the snap circuit set along with the red and black jumper wires.

Next we trade the cell out for batteries and  build a simple circuit: batteries, light, push button switch. The push switch puts the child in the circuit. We then add a second light, a diode, in parallel with the first. Finally we put fibers over the second light.

Light sensitive resistor as a switch: batteries, motor, photo diode.
Here light is the controlling factor rather than the source of electricity. The flash light puts the child in the circuit

Build these snap circuits:
cell, motor, sun light,
no switch
then add the volt meter across the cell to give a numeric measurement with an analogue device, that is, a meter with a mechanical moving part.
